Gerbino Night

By Dan Harding, Jr.

The Seaford High School 12th annual Gerbino Night wrestling match was a great success. Those wrestlers who compete in it look forward to this match all season. This match received its name from a legendary Coach who started wrestling in Seaford, for this he is known as the “Father of Seaford Wrestling”.

This year Seaford wrestled Clarke High School, a formidable opponent ranked number two in Seaford’s Conference.  The lights in the gymnasium, during this match, are all turned off except for a spotlight right over the mat, which fires everyone up. Maybe it was the roaring crowd or the Telecare television cameras, or the new hair color the team was wearing (Bleach Blonde), but the Vikings came out winning eight out of eleven matches.  Winners for Seaford were Bryan Daly, Kevin Bonilla, Tim Montgomery, Brian Fisher, Tom Gaebler, Blake Fisher, Dan Harding and Curran Digney.   The team has been training hard all season for this night and it paid off.

Saturday, January 14th, Seaford High School will hold the Patrick J. Butler Wrestling Tournament at 9:00 am in the gymnasium.  All proceeds will benefit the Patrick Butler Wrestling Scholarship Fund.  Come out and support the team.
